15 Common CCTV & DVR Solutions

Step-by-step DIY fixes for your security system from Shree Sanwariya Computers.

1. Video Loss on All Cameras

Check the CCTV Power Supply (SMPS). If the LED on the SMPS is off, your cameras aren't getting power.

2. Mobile App Showing "Offline"

Ensure the LAN cable is connected to the DVR and the Router. Check if your Internet at home/office is working.

3. DVR Beeping Continuously

Usually means "Hard Disk Error." Go to Menu > Storage > HDD Management and check if the status is 'Normal'.

4. Night Vision is Pitch Black

Ensure there are no objects blocking the camera lens. IR sensors might be failing or the power is too low for IR LEDs.

5. Horizontal Lines on Video

This is "Ground Loop" interference. Ensure the camera body is not touching a metal surface or check for loose BNC connectors.

6. Foggy or Blurry Image

Clean the outer glass of the camera with a soft microfiber cloth. Dust and spider webs often cause blurriness.

7. DVR Not Recording

Check if "Overwrite" is enabled in HDD settings. If disabled, the DVR stops recording once the disk is full.

8. Forgotten DVR Password

Click "Forgot Password" to see if security questions or email recovery is set. If not, a hardware reset is needed at our shop.

9. Playback Not Loading

Ensure the DVR date and time are correct. If the time is wrong, you won't find recordings for the current day.

10. DVR Frequently Restarting

The Power Adapter (12V) might be weak. Try replacing the DVR's individual power adapter.

11. Colors Look Strange (Pink/Green)

The IR Cut filter is likely stuck. Try power cycling the camera or gently tapping it to release the filter.

12. Remote Video Lagging

Switch the app stream quality from 'HD' to 'SD' or 'Basic'. This requires less upload speed from your DVR site.

13. Camera Video is "Flickering"

Check for loose BNC or DC pins at the back of the DVR. A loose connection is the #1 cause of flickering.

14. PTZ Camera Not Moving

Ensure the PTZ control wires are connected correctly. PTZ cameras require higher power (Ampere) than normal cameras.

15. Time is Always Wrong

The CMOS battery inside the DVR is dead. It needs replacement to keep the clock running during power cuts.
